About the breed, our kennel and the breeder
Nkosi, translated from Zulu means revered one or king. That is exactly what Rhodesian Ridgebacks are, elegant and regal. They were bred to hunt large game, the most impressive being lions, and to protect the family and livestock from unwanted intruders. Their temperament is strong-willed, mischievous, sensitive and somewhat aloof with strangers. They are intelligent, fiercely loyal and dignified.
My name is Marcine Peter and I live with my pack of beautiful girls Nia, Noomi, Cataleya, Gaia and Athena in sunny Langley B.C. We roam the beaches chasing seagulls and hike the many trails all over the lower mainland hunting whatever scurries around the forests.
I have been owned by Rhodesian Ridgebacks since 2002.
After extensive research and many conversations with different dog owners and breeders, we decided on Rhodesian Ridgebacks. We were avid mountain bikers and enjoyed all outdoor activities, but also still had young children. A Rhodesian fit into our lifestyle. A dog that is build for strength, endurance and agility. Resilient in all weather conditions, to keep up with the bike in the heat of the Okanagan summer, trudge through the rain and mud of our local rainforests and enjoy the beauty of snowshoeing in fresh powder.
And so, Kira the liver nose came into our lives. She was beautiful, headstrong and funny. Many times when it was time to go home from the beach or park, she'd give me a look as if to say " I know where you live, how about I see you there ?! " .
After Kira came Zulu. This time I was prepared for the stubborn antics.
The beauty and regal bearing of these dogs has made me want to breed them.
Then in 2012, I got Nia, my beautiful show girl. She loves showing off in the conformation ring and excels in everything she starts, from herding to lure coursing and agility. Her temperament is exceptional. Every reaction is thought-out and considered. She is careful with kids and small animals.
And so came Nkosi Rhodesian Ridgebacks into existence.
